Site Champions play a significant role in the success of Equiscript home delivery pharmacy programs across the country. They serve as the primary point of contact between the Equiscript team, providers, and patients. Site Champions are super-organized, super-involved superstars who carry out the tasks necessary to make a successful pharmacy program.
Family HealthCare Network is a non-profit organization with 41 sites, 36 of which are Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). What used to be a small outpatient health center serving the area's farming community has grown into a network of multiple sites that serves nearly 230,000 patients. This makes Family HealthCare Network one of the largest providers of care to the underserved in the country.
Ashley Shelton has worked with Family HealthCare Network as a Dispensary Clerk for nearly a year and says her favorite part of her job is helping patients get the medication they need to stay healthy. As an Equiscript Site Champion, she said she appreciates the opportunity to help patients get the benefit of receiving their medication through home delivery.
Ashley said one way the Equiscript program helps patients is by making medications more accessible. "It alleviates the inconvenience of our patients having to go to the pharmacy and not knowing what they are picking up or if anything is actually ready," she said.
With Equiscript, patients are called regularly to go over the medications that are due to ship and any other necessary information. Ashley said another benefit of this is that the health center can see which patients have received their medications and which haven’t. "This program allows us to access patient records in real-time, so they are receiving exactly what they are needing." Providers and Site Champions can access the patient's status with our program in a safe and secure portal.
Ashley said transportation to appointments and the pharmacy is the main barrier to care for their patients, and "that is exactly why this program is perfect for our patients."
