Please join us in celebrating Ruby Serna, 340B Analyst at Borrego Health in Borrego Springs, CA. Ruby is Equiscript's Site Champion Spotlight for March!
Site Champions play a significant role in the success of Equiscript home delivery pharmacy programs across the country. They serve as the primary point of contact between the Equiscript team, providers, and patients. Site Champions are super-organized, super-involved superstars who carry out the tasks necessary to make a successful pharmacy program.
Borrego Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that serves San Diego, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties and provides an array of services including primary, specialty, ancillary, preventive, and enabling care.
We were able to ask Ruby some questions about her role and experience as an Equsicript Site Champion. Take a look at what she had to say!
What do you love about your job?
What I love about my job is being able to help patients with their healthcare. It is very rewarding knowing that you can help them with their health care needs and leave a positive impact on their lives during a difficult time.
What do you like about being the Site Champion for your health center’s home delivery pharmacy program?
I like that I can be part of our patient’s healthcare and make the process smoother for our patients, especially now that we are in a pandemic. Many families have had a negative impact during the pandemic, and worrying about getting their medication is one less thing they have to do.
How has your experience working with Equiscript been so far?
My experience with Equiscript has been amazing! Everyone has been helpful and are always available to answer any questions that I may have. Communication is great!
What advice do you have for other Site Champs?
My advice for other Site Champs is to help your patients with your best effort because, in the end, you have no idea how much you are helping your patients with their care.
How valuable is the home delivery pharmacy program to your patients?
A home delivery pharmacy program is very valuable and essential to our patients since many of our patients lack the resources and transportation to be able to go to a pharmacy and pick their medications up. Patients can now receive their medications at their doorstep and they no longer have any barriers to keeping up with their health care.
What is the main barrier to accessing healthcare that your patients experience?
The main barrier our patients experience to accessing healthcare is that majority of the time our patients cannot pick their medication up from the pharmacy which results in their health declining. Some insurance companies do provide transportation for patients to their medical appointments but do not provide transportation to pharmacies so patients can pick up their important medications.
Would you recommend our program to other organizations like yours? Why?
I would definitely recommend Equiscript to other organizations because they are feasible. The program layout is simple and easy to understand. The program is manageable and simple to navigate. They are there every step of the way and not to mention the communication internally is spectacular.
