Addition Makes Innovative Dose Packaging Options More Accessible for Patients Eligible for 340B

Equiscript is pleased to announce that it has added PillPack to its network of contract pharmacies. Equiscript will bring PillPack’s pharmacy services and medication delivery system to the patients of Equiscript’s 340B client safety-net providers across the country. These providers are an important link in the nation’s healthcare system, serving patients who are often living with chronic illness and may otherwise not have access to needed support services.

Based in Manchester, NH, with operations across the United States, PillPack is focused on serving the one in four people who take multiple daily medications. This includes individuals living with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders. PillPack’s services are designed to make it easier for customers to take medications as prescribed. From their pharmacy, PillPack pre-sorts medications into convenient dose packaging, organized and labeled by the date and time each set of medications is to be taken by the patient. Each month, customers receive a personalized roll of pre-sorted medications, along with a convenient dispenser and any other medications that cannot be placed into packets, like liquids and inhalers. Each shipment includes a medication label that has a picture of each pill and directions on how it should be taken. PillPack offers online and mobile customer service tools, as well as 24/7 phone access to a licensed pharmacist. PillPack is available nationwide and is in network with most insurance providers.

Add PillPack to Your 340B Program

“It’s a natural fit for us, and for our clients,” said Equiscript CEO, Michael Burkhold.  “Our patients are on an average of eight maintenance medications, and many of them are on medication regimens that require that certain pills be taken together. We offer dose packaging on a limited basis now, but the agreement with PillPack allows us to make this easy-to-use, convenient dispensing system available to all patients.  We think it has the potential to really improve health outcomes and simplify a complex process.”

Equiscript manages 340B home delivery pharmacy programs on behalf of hospitals and health centers. In business since 2009, the company works with Covered Entities across the United States to offer patients home delivery of their medications through their network of contract pharmacies. The Equiscript program is free for patients of participating Covered Entities, and it generates new savings for the hospitals and health centers as part of the 340B Drug Pricing Program.

“Research has shown that taking medications as prescribed can lead to better outcomes and a better quality of life for people living with chronic conditions,” said TJ Parker, co-founder and CEO of PillPack. “PillPack offers services that make it as easy as possible for our customers achieve those outcomes. Being part of Equiscript’s network of contract pharmacies will help us reach more people to offer the convenience and peace of mind that comes with having a pharmacy that’s working on your behalf.”
